We are now well into the Christmas period, that means quality time with the family, eating mince pies and trimming the tree. It also means finding the perfect gifts for loved ones. However, Christmas might also be the time where your money is squeezed thinly, leaving less in the pot for things you need.
We know that our products make a huge difference to lives and when they are needed, they are essential to changing people’s circumstances and quality of life. The need for them could come at any time, even at Christmas.
This is why we offer VAT exemption for people who are disabled or have a long-term illness so that they can get the life-changing products when they need them even if money is tight.
How Tax deduction for mobility products work?
If you are disabled or have a long-term illness, you WILL NOT be charged VAT on products designed or adapted for your own personal or domestic use to help your mobility.
The product must also be for personal or domestic use because there are different rules for businesses and charities.
You will also not get charged VAT on the installation of any extra work needed, repairs or maintenance and spare parts or accessories.
You and the products have to qualify to receive a VAT deduction. Products that are designed and adapted for a disability qualify for VAT exemption meaning our adjustable beds, rise and recline chairs and our bath lifts all qualify.
Do I qualify for a VAT deduction?
To get VAT-free mobility products you must also qualify. You must…
- have a long-term illness or be disabled.
- Have a physical or mental impairment that affects your ability to carry out everyday activities.
- Have a condition that’s considered a chronic sickness.
- Be terminally ill.
You DO NOT qualify if you are elderly but are able-bodied or temporarily disabled, for example, having a broken leg. If you meet the requirements you will need to fill out a Declaration of eligibility for VAT relief form to qualify, click here.
You don’t need to be registered as disabled or on any benefits to qualify for VAT exemption. We don’t require proof of your disability, just your declaration as to the nature of your disability at the time of purchase.
If you have a qualifying condition and are buying a product that is eligible for VAT exemption, you will need to tell us before you purchase.
You will need to select your medical condition from the drop-down list. If you are not eligible for VAT relief, you will need to check the box underneath, next to the statement: ‘I do not, or the person I am purchasing for, qualify for VAT relief.’
You don’t have to physically buy the item yourself. If someone else, such as your husband or wife, is purchasing the item for you, they won’t be charged VAT.
Once you have confirmed your medical condition, the VAT will be removed from the total price you need to pay.
Your information is kept secure and following the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
