What goes into our rise and recline chairs?
Kiln Dried Frame
We offer a 25-year warranty on the frame for a reason. The wood used in our chairs is Kiln-dried beech hardwood. If you’re wondering what that means, in short, Kiln-dried means that it is dried in a huge oven instead of being left in a warehouse to naturally dry over years. Once the wood has dried, leaving between 8% to 10% moisture, it is then quality checked to make sure the wood is not only at the correct moisture but also makes sure there is no fungal growth within the wood. This means that it will take longer for the wooden frames of our chairs to rot away, ensuring the longevity of your rise and recline chair.
Made with Beech Wood
The benefits of using beech wood compared to other types of wood are that it is very tough and strong, with a close straight grain. Beech polishes well and withstands shocks and wear which means when using your chair, you constantly know that is has a structure you can rely on. A lot of other retailers use a cheaper alternative such as chipboard or MDF, which breaks down easily. This means that with Oak Tree you know you’re getting the best on the market.
Seam Welded Metal Mechanism
A seam weld is a continuous weld along a join, we use this in the metal frame of the chair. Unlike a spot weld that uses a single point electrode, a seam weld uses a rotating wheel electrode that produces a rolling resistance weld. The benefits of this mean that the two pieces of metal in the chair frame are joined across the whole join. This means that it’s structurally as strong as possible. A lot of other chair sellers use spot wielding meaning there is more flexibility in the frame and over time this can cause them to weaken and break, not ideal.
Steel Marine Pins
We also use Steel Marine Pins to keep the metal frame of the chair together. These pins are also known as Clevis pins, they are made from steel and are folded and compressed when being manufactured to make them as strong as possible, this prevents any gaps within the metal meaning it reduced the possibility of bend or a snap within the pin.
The Okin Motor
We use Okin single motors or you can have a dual motor riser recliner chair. We get our motors from Germany, this is the only part which isn’t British but there is a very good reason why we use German motors. Not only are these the strongest and safest motors on the market, but they are also completely sealed units which mean, unlike a lot of other sellers, the chair motor doesn’t have to have regular services to keep it maintained. This is done for your convenience as it’s one less thing to think about.
T-Nut Woodscrews
We use T-nuts to install the casters of the chair. T-nuts are more effective than wood screws to control the stress of constant movement of the reclining mechanism, and as a result, the screw will tighten instead of loosening over time. A lot of other rise and recline chair sellers will just use tacks or standard nuts and bolts which will loosen over time, this can then lead to needing annual services to prevent it from happening. We understand is a bother and cumbersome. When you purchase one of our rise and recliners, you can be assured that you won’t have to have frequent and annoying services.
A combination of Foams
In our chairs, we use Reflex foam. For the seat, we use a solid reflex foam which prevents the foam from breaking down quickly from use. For the back, we use a softer Reflex foam for comfort, this means we have the two styles of foam to help with the longevity of the chair but also the right combination that keeps your comfort in mind.
Microfibre Cushions
We use Microfibre Cushioning in the back cushions of the chair. The great thing about Microfibre cushioning is that it can be added or removed with ease by making a small incision into the Microfibre cushion case within the Fabric cover, giving you full control of the level of padding in your chair. You can also massage the cushions by taking it out of the Fabric case and plumping the cushion. The synthetic material of the pillow also repels moisture. This makes it easy to wipe over without causing any damage to the cushion.
Serpentine Springs
In our chairs, we have Serpentine Springs which go underneath the two parts of reflex foam in the seat. This is to add support below the foams and keeps the foams springing back up to help keep you be completely supported across your full body weight.
An array of Fabrics
We use Ross Fabrics for all our ranges of riser recliner chairs. Other, cheaper sellers abide by the minimum EU Laws which states all fabrics must withhold a 6000 standard rub test to prove the fabrics are withholding of general use. Here at Middletons, we go a step further. We are so confident in our fabrics, that we do a 30,000 intense rub test to prove how superior our fabrics are compared to cheaper alternatives. We also use grain fabric protection (pre-dipped) to protect your chair from stains and dirt.
